Dinos and Mummies and Bears, Oh My!

A was lucky to get a week break in between pediatrics/OBGYN and surgery rotations, so his parents jumped on the opportunity to come up for a visit.  The night they arrived, we went out to dinner then had dessert drinks at the Hancock.  I finally got a decent picture!  (Had to put the camera on a table.)

The next day we pretended I was a freshman interested in attending the U of C and joined a tour of the campus.  We learned a lot, especially considering A's been going there for two years now... ;)  The campus is quite beautiful - all tree-surrounded quads and ivy-clad buildings.

We were instructed not to step on the seal.

For lunch we ate at a place that was highly recommended, both by my career counselor and one of the doctors A has shadowed.  Manny's Cafeteria was everything they said!  A true cafeteria setting - grab your tray and slide on down.  Hot entrees, sandwiches, matzo ball soup... all delicious choices.

As it was a gorgeous day, that afternoon we went to the Lincoln Park Zoo.  There was a bear with a tongue issue.

 We also stopped by an exhibit of stained glass at Navy Pier.  There was an interesting one of a Chicago legend.

The next day we went to the Field Museum of Natural History - A's and my first visit.  

We saw the famous T-Rex, Sue.

Her head is actually separate from her body.  Apparently it's too heavy!

They had a lot of examples of creepy bug-like things.

Apparently Illinois has a famous fossil.  (Who knew?)

Definitely Big Foot, not Little Foot.

These rocks came from space.  Outer space.  Waaaaaay outer space.  And I touched them!  That's amazing!

The museum had a door from an Egyptian temple that was stolen borrowed moved from its original location.

And a bunch of dead people.  Seriously, those are real mummies.  Creepy.

Definitely a fun-filled visit!
