Searching for Leaves in Wisconsin

A couple weeks ago I was really hankering (hankering?  Did I just say that?) to see some colorful fall leaves, so A and I decided to take a mini-road trip up through Wisconsin.  We brought Orion along - her first extended trip in the car.  She did so well!  We charted a course through the Kettle Moraine Forest and hiked in the southern unit the first day.

WI is a strange empty interesting place.  Full of little quirks.

We ate dinner at a local brewery in a random biggish town.  A was able to sample several of their local brews.

We spent the night in Sheboygan and checked it out in the morning.  There was a park with gorgeous leaves!

Next we headed to "downtown" Sheboygan to see the sites.  First up, the salvaged pieces of the Lottie Cooper, a ship which was wrecked in Sheboygan's harbor in 1896.

It was pretty intact for being so old and also underwater for almost 100 years.

We checked out the riverside area - it reminded us of a certain movie.  Hint: Duh-DUH.  Duh-DUH.  duh-duh, duh-duh, duh-duh, duh-duh...

We headed on to the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine forest, hopping on and off the scenic drive as we saw fit.

We decided to head in the most direct route towards Madison, which led us past many acres of corn fields.  Many, many corn fields.  And every 20 minutes or so, we came upon a town (population: 1,700 or so).  We had a delicious home-cooked lunch in one of them.

In Madison we started at the very impressive city capitol building.  Gorgeous!

We walked up and down one of the lake fronts (Madison is bordered by two lakes), and saw the cute shopping/restaurant area.  We decided we definitely probably don't need to visit Wisconsin ever again.  Though we did enjoy the scenery!
